It is very important that you follow each step and complete all of these instructions, or you may need to repeat your colonoscopy.


DO NOT USE marijuana for eight hours prior to the procedure as it could cause complications/adverse effects.


Purchase in advance

  • SUTAB (sodium sulfate, magnesium sulfate, and potassium chloride) tablets are an orally administered laxative and are supplied in two bottles, each containing 12 tablets.

Seven days before the colonoscopy

  • Stop taking all fiber supplements and medications containing iron, including multivitamins.
  • You may need to stop taking certain medications. Talk to the doctor who prescribed the medication and let them know you'll be having a colonoscopy.
  • If you are taking any GLP1 antagonists for weight loss or diabetes, you MUST stop taking them 7 days prior to your procedure to avoid procedure cancellation (e.g., Ozempic, Wegovy, Trulicity, etc.)  

One day before colonoscopy: dietary modifications

  • DO NOT eat any solid food from today onwards.
  • Maintain a clear liquid diet for the rest of the day. Avoid all red or purple liquids. Avoid all dairy products.
  • A clear liquid diet may include:
  • Soup: Clear broths such as chicken, vegetable, or beef broth. These broths should not contain noodles or solid foods.
  • Juice: apple, lime, cranberry, white grape
  • Drinks: Tea (do not add milk), Coffee (do not add milk), Soda, Gatorade (or other sports drinks), Water, Vitamin Water (or other similar drinks)
  • Desserts: gelatin (no red or purple), Italian ice cream, popsicles, hard candy

SUTAB split-dose (2-day) regimen : The recommended split-dose regimen for adults consists of two doses of SUTAB: the first dose the night before the colonoscopy and the second dose the following day, on the morning of the colonoscopy.


Patient Instructions -


Dose 1 - The day before the colonoscopy:

  • DO NOT USE marijuana for eight hours prior to the procedure as it could cause complications/adverse effects.
  • Early the night before your colonoscopy, open a bottle of 12 tablets.
  • Fill the provided container with 16 ounces of water (to the fill line). Swallow each tablet with a sip of water and drink the entire amount over 15 to 20 minutes.
  • Approximately one hour after taking the last tablet, fill the provided container a second time with 16 ounces of water (to the fill line) and drink the entire amount over 30 minutes.
  • Approximately 30 minutes after finishing the second container of water, refill the provided container with 16 ounces of water (to the fill line) and drink the entire amount over 30 minutes.


If patients experience preparation-related symptoms (e.g., nausea, bloating, cramps), pause or slow down drinking the additional water until symptoms subside.


Dose 2 - Day of colonoscopy :

  • Continue to consume only clear liquids until after your colonoscopy.
  • Fill the provided container with 16 ounces of water (to the fill line). Swallow each tablet with a sip of water and drink the entire amount over 15 to 20 minutes.
  • Approximately one hour after taking the last tablet, fill the provided container a second time with 16 ounces of water (to the fill line) and drink the entire amount over 30 minutes.
  • Approximately 30 minutes after finishing the second container of water, refill the provided container with 16 ounces of water (to the fill line) and drink the entire amount over 30 minutes.
  • If patients experience preparation-related symptoms (e.g., nausea, bloating, cramps), pause or slow down drinking the additional water until symptoms subside.
  • Complete all SUTAB tablets and water at least two hours before your colonoscopy.
  • Take the remaining half of the prep at 3 a.m. and stop drinking liquids at 4 a.m. on the day of the procedure. Do not take anything by mouth after that.


Do not take oral medications within 1 hour of starting each dose of SUTAB. If you are taking tetracycline or fluoroquinolone antibiotics, iron, digoxin, chlorpromazine, or penicillamine, take these medications at least 2 hours before and no less than 6 hours after each dose of SUTAB.


Stop consuming all liquids at least 2 hours before your colonoscopy.
