Risk factors that increase the chance of developing lung cancer are: 

  • Tobacco smoke
  • Radon
  • Air pollution
  • Family or personal history of lung cancer.
  • Asbestos and other carcinogens
  • Radiation therapy
  • Age 65 and older
  • History of lung disease
  • Diet- Arsenic in drinking water from private sources, e.g., wells, can increase lung cancer risk; this water should be tested
