Bronchial asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease of the airways that causes periodic "attacks" of hyper responsiveness, mucosal edema, and mucus production. This inflammation ultimately leads to recurrent episodes of asthma symptoms: cough, chest tightness, wheezing and dyspnea.
