Q- What is Plasma Therapy?
Plasma is a natural blood component that contains virus-fighting antibodies. Plasma Therapy works by using antibodies from the blood of a recovered COVID patient to treat other critically infected COVID patients.
Plasma donation is similar to blood donation. However, unlike blood donation, in the plasma donation process, plasma is separated from the blood and the remaining blood is transferred back to the donor’s body resulting in zero blood loss. The procedure is completely harmless and the donor does not experience any pain, sickness or dizziness.
Q- What is Convalescent Plasma?
Convalescent Plasma is the liquid component of blood that is collected from patients who have recovered from COVID-19, caused by the virus SARS-CoV-2. Recovered patients develop antibodies against the virus in their blood. These antibodies help in fighting the same infection in other COVID patients.
Q- Who is eligible to donate Convalescent Plasma?
You can donate plasma if you fulfil the below conditions:
Male between 18 and 60 years of age; female between 18 and 60 years of age, who’s never been pregnant
Weight more than 50 kg
Confirmed positive for COVID-19 by a laboratory test
Recovered from COVID-19 (medically documented) and have been symptom-free for at least 14 days
Found negative for all pre-donation tests done for transfusion transmitted infections
