What to expect during TIF Procedure :

Before the procedure, you might have to undergo pH testing (Bravo test) or video Xray to document the severity of the condition you might be suffering. Do not eat or drink for 12 hours before the procedure. On the day of test arrive at least 45 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment time. During the procedure, you will be given medication in your vein to relax, a local anesthetic spray into your mouth, and you will be asked to lie to the left side. A flexible tube called endoscope will be passed into the mouth through the TIF device, capturing images on a screen. TIF is used to relieve symptoms of GERD by wrapping a small portion of stomach around the food pipe without incision and secure valves using fasteners that remain within the body.

After the procedure, you might have to stay in the hospital for a few hours before being discharges. There could be mild sore throat, shoulder or chest pain following the procedure.
